1: Check Your OneDrive Recycle Bin
- Go to OneDrive Web.
-
In the left pane, click Recycle bin.
- Look for the deleted file.
-
Select it and click Restore.
🔹 Note: If you were the owner of the file, it will be in your Recycle Bin.
🔹 If you were not the owner, it may be in the owner’s Recycle Bin instead.
2: Ask the File Owner to Restore It
If the file was shared with you, and you deleted it, it only removes your access—it doesn’t delete it for everyone.
-
Ask the owner to:
-
Check their OneDrive > Recycle Bin
- Restore the file if it was deleted
3: Check “Second-Stage Recycle Bin”
If you're using OneDrive for Business:
- Go to the Recycle Bin.
-
Scroll to the bottom and click “Second-stage recycle bin”.
- Look for the file and restore it.
4: Contact IT Support (if needed)
If the file is not in either Recycle Bin and it’s critical:
- Contact your IT team (you, in this case!)
-
Admins can use Microsoft 365 Compliance Center or PowerShell to attempt recovery if within retention period
5. Tips to Prevent Future Accidental Deletions
-
Use “View only” permissions when sharing sensitive files
-
Enable version history to recover older versions
- Avoid deleting files from shared folders unless you're the owner
