Microphone Not Working – Self-Troubleshooting Guide
Step 1: Check Physical Connection
Ensure the microphone or headset is properly plugged in. For Bluetooth devices, make sure they are paired and connected.
Step 2: Select the Correct Input Device
Go to Settings > System > Sound. Under Input, choose the correct microphone from the dropdown list. Speak and check if the input level bar moves.
Step 3: Check Microphone Permissions
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Ensure Microphone access is On and the app you're using has permission.
Step 4: Unmute Yourself
Check if you're muted in the app or on your headset. Look for a physical mute button or keyboard shortcut.
Step 5: Test in Another App
Try using Voice Recorder or Google Meet to test if the mic works in other apps. This helps identify if the issue is app specific. Make sure to select the correct microphone (Bottom Left Side) before you test the mic.

Step 6: Restart the App
Close and reopen the app you're using. This can refresh audio settings.
Step 7: Restart Your Laptop
A reboot can fix temporary glitches affecting the microphone.
Step 8: Try a Different Microphone
If available, test with another headset or use the built-in mic and check behavior.
Step 9: Check Volume Settings
Go to Settings > System > Sound > Input. Click Device Properties and ensure the volume is turned up.

Step 10: Contact IT Support
If none of the above steps work, report the issue to IT. Mention what you’ve already tried and any error messages.
